Melee is far better and has a greater competitive scene than N64 used to...So many more mindgames and tactics

melee is far better. the first super smash was a little bit messed up with the grabs being too powerful and the damage percentages unfair

oh boy...this is hard. i think ill ave to choose the Melee due to the fact there are more peeps to play and levels to be in. BUT the 64 one had the original zelda course with the zelda theme...and the mario 1 course was soooo much cooler than the one on the GCN. but i like melee better because it had zelda and gannon in it!

They both rock. I have both of them. (I will SO but SSBB when it comes out :s) SSBM is a great game, one of the best 4 the gamecube. However, SSB lets u see the root of the game, where melee came from. in a sense, no matter the graphics or the extras on the game, it will always be true to the original game's flavor XD

melee built off of what made the original SSB good, which is why SSB Brawl is going to be super badass. so my answer would have to be melee.

The original Super Smash Bros, because despite such a low budget it paved the way for Melee and Brawl. A lot like Rocky, but the first Rocky film was loads better anyway.

I find it realy hard to compare the two.Super smas brothers is what started it all, and (at the time) broke the mold for fighters and games in general. Who, at the time, had ever heard of all the main characters in the big franchises battleing it out for superiority? Not to mention that it wasn't your standard "get this bar to zero" style fighter...Melee, however, refined the idea. It made everything faster, pretier, more competitive and, in my oppinion, gave more variety and a longer lasting appeal. However, it isn't perfect, the main problem being some characters are just "clones".I'd personally say I like Melee more, just because the controls feel better, and the fighting can be much more intense. I'd definately consider this the more competitive game of the two. however, I can't ignore the original, as it's also amazing and holds a special place amongst video games. Like the first in any franchise, this is the one that started it all, and deserves much respect

Melee has more stuff.... but i can never get used to the controls or even the controller itself for the Cube.... I like the N64 version better anyways...

Definitely Melee. Apart from what all those people said there is the plain fact that it has better graphics.

Played both, however I prefer melee. The original is too slow and not much movement. However the characters in melee are too cheap, so I'm basically waiting for brawl to come out.

the original is good but i found melee added so many new options and looked incredible that i instantly fell in love. At a place where i worked one summer, one of the staffers left his cube in the staff center so on our off times i can hardly think of a moment were that thing was not in use with melee being played.
