Melee because it was able to have all the greatness of the original, plus improve on all of 64's weaknesses. The advancements in the GC over the N64 are a plus side too.

Melee. So many new characters. So many new stages. So much new content in general. I'm only saying this because I live in Australia and Brawl hasn't come out yet.

i personally prefer the n64. this is mainly due to the fact that i haven't played melee very much to get a feel for it.

I've played both of these games, and I have to say I like the N64 version much better. Granted, I have the N64 version and only play Melee and friends' houses, but here are the things I like about the older version. You have to work to use smash attacks, the directional tap and A, rather than just tapping the analog stick, which can get pretty cheap. Also, there is more time in the air to use aerial attacks, because in Melee, the falling is more realistic, with acceleration as you fall towards the ground. Any other thoughts?

i think n64 is the best!!!

definitely melee. melee was the first smash i played. when my friend showed me the original smash bros. on his n64 emulator, he let me play as link (since he knew i was a link fangirl) and he played as mario on peach's castle. i took one look at it and said, "this is it?"

There are more than 10 characters in Smash 64. The balancing in Smash 64 is better than in Melee, where there a a few clear characters that are better than everyone else, but I think I like Melee better.Though that could be because I don't remember 64 that well...

Hah I admit I had some great times playing Link in the original, nothing like ticking off your buddies by chucking bombs at them. But overall, I enjoyed melee to this day more than the original.

I have to say Melee, because it had Roy and Marth. And it was just more addictive, and there was a lot more stuff to doAlthough Brawl is also very good, but I'm dissapointed with the fact that they replaced Roy with Ike, I mean sure, I like Ike, but Roy was my favourite Char, and I liked him a lot more.

Melee is awesome. Great new features, a bunch of characters to never get bored with, and all the good stuff of the classic. But the N64 one started it all, so you can't blame that one for being "suckish".

Melee hands down was better than the N64 version. There were more characters, more games that had some role in the game, more items, more stages, more ways to play, plus it brought up a few things that I never knew about at the time, like Fire Emblem.

hmmm I main with Ness in all 3 so...I would have to pick Meleebut I would pick Brawl if it was a choiceMelee has more unique characters but lacks balance in the way of a few charactersNess is underpoweredMarth is too fast and his counter is cheapSheik could lose a little knockbackand then I would probably pick meleebecause the cast of characters were so uniquewhen it was transfered to brawl it lost some of that uniquenessbut it gained balancesorry for that little rantMelee =)

Melee, the game feels smoother. Not to mention all the techniques that have been developed over time.
