I'm siding with Melee, but that's because I'm a graphics whore. I need the visual stimulation.

Ohhhh Hard pick, as you say, apples and oranges. I love the graphics on Melee, but there is so much nostalgia wrapped up in N64... Many fond memories of electrode rolling out just as you used your Samus charge beam knocking them back into it (it was so much stronger back then) and yet, in melee there are so many more characters to chose from and C. Falcon is significantly faster, and only slightly weakened... but the decision is based on my nostalgia, and the fact that i still own a copy of the game and 2 N64's. SSB: 64 gets my vote.

i like both. the original was just so wacky and wild but melee was just like 3x better.

Melee is a much faster and competitive game. It also has some excellent characters that SSB64 didn't have. It has more gameplay options. Since I never owned a N64, there is no nostalgia factor. Melee wins.

I like Melee better, but the other one is awesome too!

Melee is better since there are more features that add to the game's already ridiculous amount of replay value, but like pepperpumpkin said, N64 was "awesome too." I'm better at the N64 version, as well

melee is better in most terms, and what you said about smash in melee is for wimps, nobody does it. anyhow, 64 is slower and isn't so much on combos, just knocking hard, so its better for light players or newbs

I've played both, I grew up with N64 smash brothers, and I say **** the both of them, and **** brawl most of all, their ok games, not great, mindless repetitive fun that got old. Since the year of our lord 2009 is coming to a close let us all just stop fighting over this game, and play more games. Or we could keep fighting, tat works to.

Melee just took too many steps away from the cartoony-ness of the first one. Too fast, too "realistic" for my tastes. No school like the old school, I guess.

I definately like melee better than N64, I also like both of them better than brawl though.
