I believe that they both have their merits. Zelda games are more thought intensive, and usually are more detailed than Mario games, but Mario games are easier to pick up. The only thing Mario has that is better than Zelda is that you can stop playing and re-start without problem. That said, the plot of Zelda is incomparably better, and thusly makes it a better overall game.

mario is the best. Nothing can beat jumping around and stomping enemies or frying them with a fireball.

Well 2d Mario Games, or rather 2d Gameplayed ones, like the 3d version of the oldschool 3d mario brothers, totaly pwn 2d zelda. But I don't thik Mario turning 3 dimensional on us was worth it, afterall, nothing beats good old 2d of mario.. I could easily disagree about Zelda though. They need to stick with 3d, and FOR GOD SAKES PLEASE DON'T LET THEM MAKE ANOTHER GAME WITH GRAPHICS LIKE WINDWAKER. THe game wasn't half bad, but that was NOT counting those graphics. As much as I hate people who rate games by graphics, Windwaker was the only 3d game that didn't beat mario in 3d. Why? The graphics. dam i love the zelda series and mario series, but if i had to chose one of them, it would be definitly zelda, especialy ocarina of time

Mario has always had the advantage of being less in-depth story-wise, and thus have been able to be launch titles (see: every system other than GC and Wii). Zelda games have the advantage of taking time to take full advantage of a system's capabilities. It's really a question of how you want to enjoy the game. If you want to see the full range of capabilities in a system and a story that is very deep, then you want a Zelda title. If you want some mindless fun for a couple of hours without the ball-and-chain of a storyline, then you want a Mario title.

Link beats Mario for sure. The game says it all. In Zelda u got the triforce triangle thingy that supposedly soo mysterious and powerful where as Mario has fire spit which is a due result from ingestings random Magic mushrooms and radioactive glowing weeds.

Zelda couse theres alot more to do then mario and just like rpgs and zelda has better rpg elements.

I like Zelda games because every dungeon is different. In Mario games you usually do the same thing over and over like collecting stars or red coins. Although, Zelda does reuse the same bosses in some games the dungeons, puzzles, and gameplay are always different.

Mario and Link, the same but diffent...not really. They both got al lot going for them but I think mario's growing faster while Links just keeps more graphically richer.
