Keep in mind, not only do the options (controls, visual and sound settings, difficulty sliders) and AI become more intricate in new games, but the resources people have nowadays for their games is a complete marvel. Back when I played commodore there was no such thing as gamefaqs.com, or even publicized strategy guides for games. Multiplayer for the most part was a joke, so games came as much more of a "figure it out for yourself or you're gonna suck" demeanor rather than a "information at your fingertips" style compared to current games.

For RPG games , yes , but the replay value is better for some giving it stuff to unlock higher difficulty.

i think that a lot of games are getting easier or they are just shorter i enjoy games that have a good amount of dificulty but sumtimes when it is just to hard it gets really fustrating. A lot of games are getting worse and worse but im gonna probably still keep gaming for like the rest of my life either way. So it doesnt matter too much as long as the games are sumwhat fun. or even the reason newer games are getting easier for me is because most of the old games i used to play, i played when i was very young but as you grow up u get more skilled at it.

In general, I'd say that they are, but then again you can't really say every single new game is easier than any old game or that every single old game is harder than any new game.

Uh um...well, i beleive this is true for certain genres but not all. Plus i will add that zelda is my favorite franchise and im dissappointed about how easy WindWaker was so hopefully Twighlight Princess will be more challenging.

Games have started to become really easy and based on "user friendly". I'd bet most of the hardcore gamers today couldn't stand playing most of the games of the 80s. :P

Well games were once for a secluded part of the population, mostly "geeks" 'n such. Nowadays, everyone plays video games, which explains the lack of necessary intellect. Of course, some games are still very complex and challenging, but if you pick a franchise and compare the first games to the newest ones, you'll notice a difference.

Games are getting pretty easy. For hardcore gamers that is.I mean some people who just get into games have no clue how to play them let alone beat them. Most games these days are targeted for the newer generation of gamers rather than the old hardcore gamers.Just put the difficulty setting on the highest and play until you get bored.Thats all I can suggest.

Personally I think it just seems like these games are easier. Think about a lot of games are influenced by past games, whether it is the AI or the puzzles in rpgs or wotever, however since most of us are long time gamers and as such have learnt this little trick or that little trick.also i agree with the gamefaqs post. a lot of users if they spend more than 5 minutes stuck they are on the internet trying to get the answer. personally for me to get up to that point, it is usually a whole day being stuck (i beat most games in 2 days for simple short ones to about a week for longer ones like san andreas)since difficulty is a non thing for me I tend to go for games with a good storyline.

i think that some games are getting harder depends on the game itself u really cant judge all the games if u only played easy ones if u try all game in the whole wide world i bet that anyone who does will find more hard games than easy ones. because there are foriegn games that america doesn't have and some game europe doesn't but france and japna has so it all come down to what game u play

It's hard to say if games are actually getting easier or harder, I think it's just that games are -expected- to have so much more than they used to. Back in the day, when you really were limited in your options, games had to still be entertaining, so they seemed to be more difficult. For example, Mario, all you can do is jump all in down, so game developers have to think up of all sorts of ways to make jumping up and down exciting, interesting and entertaining. Now, we have all these different things we can do in games that combines so many things at once, so game developers don't have to focus as much, they spread out, try to do a nice even medium of everything. So no, I don't think they're getting easier, they're just not as focused.

I've noticed that the games that had crappier graphics *by today's standards* have a better level of difficulty than one's that go pure graphics.Look at Doom3 and Quake4, they were both easy games. They just wanted to scare you *or attempt to in Q4's case*but if you look at fear, which can be run at a lower rate and still have decent graphics. Then you would realize that FEAR is much harder than anything you've played since SNES.

Well, out of the ROMs I've played of NES and SNES games, they all definitely seem to have a step up in difficulty compared to the games of today.
