I like anime more than American cartoons because anime tends to have more coherent stories and realistic characters. While this has lessened in recent years, American shows have tended to be moralistic, with well defined good and evil sides and not much ambivalence. Also, anime explores things that would be considered taboo in American animation, such as sex and gender roles, violence and death, and unconventional lifestyles. American shows tend towards whitewashing these things (the gunfights in the A-Team come to mind), and anime has always seemed more diverse in thematic material.

That was probably the best reply yet, Pacific Soldier. The only thing I can think to add to that is that anime tends to be more pleasing to the eye - not necessarily that it's full of beautiful art, but that at least the art is more aesthetically pleasing than many American cartoons.

I think why is Japanese Anime better than American Cartoon cuz there is a lot of Hentai 
and the anime are goodwith a lot of actions,fantasies,funny stuff,sex,and many more XDXD etc......

Because most cartoons do not have a plot or the plot is very pointless. While anime has plots and most of them have a good one. But not inuyasha. That thing has been alive for too long.

Anime is better than American cartoons because anime have better soundtracks, better animation, better storyline, better character development. Anime is much more deeper than American cartoons.

Anime has more plot and depth and it also has a story. but not Excel Saga. That is one Anime that I'll never understand

It's actually funny? Lol, it's true though, the Japanese DO know how to make good animations. Although I'd argue that Avatar the Last Airbender is pretty good for an American "cartoon".

One reason is the way anime is drawn. American cartoons just don't really look good. Also, animes have much better storylines in my opinion.

I think it just depends on what you think is better. If you think anime is better, then its better... for you. I like both... but I like anime more...since I'm asian and is more exposed to things like animes. The first time I watched the simpsons... I didn't laugh. I thought the show was boring and all that. But when I watched other episodes... the humor is getting on me. If the topic is asking why anime is better, well in my opinion (since i really think anime is better) maybe because it's more appealing and you'll crave for th next episode whenever you're done with one ep.

Anime focuses more on the character development while American cartoons are more comedic lessons. Basically when I think of the differences between Anime and American cartoons I think of the difference between Tragedy and Comedies both express the same lessons however comedies are a little more light hearted like American Cartoons while Anime is darker and emotional.

American cartoons have become so heavily censored, it's ridiculous. This new "The Batman" fails so hard compared to the original "Batman" and "Batman: The Animated Series". And also, they've murdered Transformers with this new "Transformers: Animated". It's horrible...

Yea..Almost all American Cartoons are pretty much absolute CRAP. No explanation required I presume..The only good Cartoons are their comedies like Simpsons, American Dad and Family Guy.I guess American Cartoons just don't have the appeal..
