I think that a person with common sense would believe in evolution. I also think that this topic is pretty damn ignorant. Would it be alright if I made a discussion entitled: Who the hell would believe in God??? I'd probably have so many people report me it wouldn't even be funny. I'm sorry but species taking millions of years to evolve and adapt makes far more sense than some guy making EVERYTHING in a week.

I also have a strong opinion that there isn't not a God, which is pointed by the fact that the chance of the universe coming into existance is precisely zero. When we look at evolution, it's like pointing out how a snowflake has only five points while the snow is falling up. In any case, someone will come up with a rebuttal.

The main problem in the topic poster's argument is that who fossil thing. Fossilization is incredibly rare. Not everything gets fossilized. All of those missing links that he so desperately wants to see have been obliterated eons ago. The best thing is to look at the proof and documented data from the present time. Things are changing and even religion had to bend down to accept some of the data while maintaining their differences.

Another problem is the concept of "punctuated evolution." This is a theory that is gaining a lot of velocity in the scientific community, and essentially argues that evolution happens in spurts rather than the traditional idea of gradualism. This would also serve to explain the gaps in the fossil record.

You know, I've heard of this. Every time I've seen it in textbooks, there's no explanation given for it whatsoever, and I'm thus disinclined to believe it at all. Even prominent scientists can be wrong.Simply put, macroevolution happens. Trying to argue against it is not terribly wise.

People against evolution aren't smart enough to understand the process and therefore there must be a creator.

I'm going to answer as simply as I can and try not to offend anyone, evolution is more logical than traditional religious creation. think, when you first learned that touching hot stoves was bad you learned not to do it again, over time this becomes instinct and not something that you have to stop and think over. evolution is just like that, but based on genes, its all survival of the fittest.

Thank you...Also, take a look at DNA structure, I'm not gonna go off on a whole tangent about it, as many people wouldn't understand it or read it. All I'm going to say is that it has been proven beyond of a shadow of a doubt that we evolved from apes. Even our mannersyms are closely related. and since the Earth has slightly warmed over the last 2000 years, people now don't have as much body hair and have more dexterious fingers, as a sign of evolution in written history.

How can anybody believe in God? Or religion for that matter? Inconsistancies and lack of irrefutable proof make living by the Bible's word one of the most rediculous things somebody could do.

People require guidance because they are simply too stupid to lead themselves, as humans by nature are social creatures. Religion is as much of a vice as heroin or booze IMO.OFF TOPIC: If I'm ever on the street again, I'm stealing your avatar to use as my panhandling sign <_<

I'm only sad that it's not me in the picture.Back on Topic:I knew that, but being the person I am, it's hard for me to see that through the eyes of somebody else. It's just a piece of information that means little to me. Like a math problem.I grew up without any religious pressure, and therefore became quite the realist. Once I began paying attention to the world around me I realized how stupid people are and became a cynic. I am so cynical that more then once it has been suggested that I am powered by a small black hole where my heart should be.Religion is simply a way for somebody to make up for their shortcomings. Instead of atoning for things they messed up , they go into a big building for 2 hours every Sunday and be read to out of a book made up entirely of fiction.Fun Fact: During German class, as a joke, I created an entire religion that revolves around staples. You know, the office supply.

You seem to think very closely to how I do...scawy.Yeah, I mean, I look at it this way: if there is a ''god'' then god created man, and man created religon, as a way to scare people into following their rules.

It all comes to power. People crave power. Scaring people into following you is one of the most effective ways to gain power. Using fear as a tactic isn't just a practice in the field of religion either. Politicians use it all the time. Even schools use fear to motivate kids. Have you ever seen those posters in schools that tell you that College graduates make X amount of money more then people with only a GED?

Yeah, and we all know it's a bunch of ****. I'm glad that there are people out there that realize this. How I see it is this: do what you want but don't interfere with my life/beliefs, I think that's pretty fair.

More fun facts: Once, in a paper for my English teacher freshman year, I compared religion to a drug war, saying that the reason religions sent out missionaries, built more churches, held festivals and demonstrations, was only to obtain more followers and increase power. Similar to how drug kingpins (I'm using an extremely exaggerated situation, bear with it) fight over customers, or certain parts of a city so as to get more money/influence/power.This is what happens when our school system works the "No child left behind" program instead of having classes hard enough for me. I have too much free time and unused mind power.

He was a teacher that gave the kid a Pass/Fail and refused to give parents the student's semester grade because it "didn't accurately reperesent his abilities". One of the coolest teachers I have ever had.Off Topic (omg!): I'm gonna go get some sleep. It's 10PM where I live and I have an educational institute to go to when I wake up.

u noe pirate..... we're all "guided" by someone, or something. u being a realist doesnt just come instantly. your parents wanted you to choose the paths you want, so they didnt pressure u into believing into a religion. that can also mean they wanted you to not believe in a religion and be pressured into it as well. if you're going to say having a religion is "stupid" n all that, then y not say the society you follow is stupid and fcked up? u cant, because the society u believed in made u who u are right now. to you it's a good society to be in, but maybe to others it's a piece of shyt. we're all guided, and we all follow someone, or something. many follow religions to choose their fate, and make their choices; some chooses to follow the society they live in and believe in all the media crap given to them. only a rare few can say they truely make their own destiny, and their future. i can already tell you're not one of those rare few just by the way you talk. a person who can make his/her own destiny does not have to prove anything, or judge anyone, as long as they know they are better than u.

There isn't irrefutable proof for anything. Not believing or something because it can't be proven is an absolutely idiotic way of living. For instance, it can't be irrefutably proven that any of your friends actually like you, but is it ridiculous to acknowledge them as your friends? I think anyone who identifies himself as an atheist, across the board, is an absolute idiot. If one is intelligent to acknowledge the fact that he cannot prove God, he should should be intelligent enough to realize he can't disprove God either. Believing in God is just as ridiculous as believing there is no God, the only sensible course of action is admiting you don't have the slightest idea.

evolution is a theory that actually makes sense... But I also believe in the Bible that God created everything. It might be strange to believe in opposing things but it's interesting if you guys read "Angels & Demons" where God does things and science can help to support the higher being.

If you want to take the very first step towards understanding evolution and creation listen for a sec, elements are different they vibrate at different speeds (first least and last most) In the Bible, things are explained as being created by the voice of God when he stated, "Let there be light..." etc... So when God spoke and called things into being, the different Vibrations of his voice, or Characteristics of elements, were called into being.... But I must say that if you Believe in God and you doubt evolution (and Big Bang), are you not doubting the power of God?
