#4888512 Do you think smoking should be banned

Posted by Guest on 15 November 2010 - 10:33 AM

Im from Australia and we are very laid back on the smoking rules.. The laws stipulate that the only places you cant have a smoke are in a public shopping centre and on school grounds.. many choose to smoke within areas in resturaunts and cannot be told to 'but' the smoke out as it is offensive to the smoker. I'm seventeen and have never touched a smoke within my like.. My mum smokes a packet per day, its not the best for her lungs obviously but shes been smoking since the age of ten..

#4989493 Killing someone in self defence.

If you had to kill someone to save your own life, you've done nothing wrong, morally anyway. At that point, it's the deceased's fault for not backing down enough, and crossing the line of no return.

Since the thread has shifted towards innocents being imprisoned and the corruption of the system I'd like to talk about that. I think the problem of whether or not it is just can be looked at in two ways: one is it what the majority of people consider morally just, or is it legally just? Often times what people believe others "deserved" isn't legal according to the laws of the state or country. I believe our legal system should be respected, even if sometimes despite the best effort of the defense an innocent person is found guilty. Juries can be persuaded one way or another depending on many different factors outside the facts of the case. I took a class in college about jury selection is a very important process, you don't just pick the people that show up, you have to ask questions to determine who won't be biased for or against you (ex. if a woman had been sexually assaulted she would be dismissed as a juror in a sexual assault case). However, people lie and you never know 100% that a juror won't try to influence the jury once they go to make their deliberation. There are cases of one person shifting the whole jury to either guilty or not guilty based on a story they tell, or even bullying techniques. Humans aren't perfect, but I believe the justice system tries to be as fair as possible and avoid corruption - though this in inherent in human nature. Back to the issue of someone spending life in prison for self defense, no it doesn't seem just but without a specific case it's hard to know what exactly happened. In some states castle laws - laws saying you may defend yourself (kill) someone who breaks into your house - vary widely. For example in some states you may simply shoot someone who steps onto your property with no warning, while in others you must establish that they have intent to harm, that they are armed with a deadly weapon, and that you also must ask them to leave and warn them you are armed before shooting them. If you don't know the technicalities of the law then you will be found guilty in some cases, depending on the sympathy of the jury.

#4999968 Games for two?

Posted by Guest on 17 March 2012 - 12:09 AM

Lately I have encountered a series of extremely boring lectures at my Collage. Fortunately, as I'm studying IT, laptops are allowed. That brought me and my friend to looking for small games to play. GBA Emulation came to my mind. We had some successes with Advance Wars, though we couldn't get it to work through VBALink, so we're stuck with single screen. That means playing without fog of war (as it's pointless when we both see the screen at all times) which is an important feature there. So, I'm looking for something else. Any games you'd recomend for us? 2 players on one emulator is a must. Being turn based is a bonus (allows for short brakes to see if the lecture is still so boring), as would be being no secrets based (we can't really turn laptop around during the lecture all the time, and Link is not an option)

#4756671 Money Free world???

Posted by Guest on 16 December 2009 - 08:05 PM

While I don't doubt for a second that a day will probably come when paper currency becomes outdated and it all becomes digital, here's my question. The whole value of money depends on the gold and silver deposits that are kept at the mint. If everything becomes digital, would this not completely obliterate the actual value of money? Who's to stop someone from creating countless dollars (or whatever the currency may be) and everybody becoming rich and then there being an endless cycle of raise the prices, make more money, raise the prices more, create more money, etc etc etc?

sorry you got it wrong the U.S. broke away from the gold standard in 1971.The gov prints as much mney as it thinks it needs an example would be during a recession it would print money but it also destroys money as well to balance inflation and unemployment. There is a price to creating too much money its called inflation and look at a textbook and see what happened to germany after WWI

#4991019 What do you think of the holidays?

Posted by Chizzy on 12 February 2012 - 04:31 AM

they are enjoyable when you have someone to spend them with.but when your family spends $50 on you, and your cousins all get $100 Ipods and money too, and they get spoiled... you tend to dislike them.i only enjoy them when im with my girl friend. Christmas music gets me depressed...but alot of holidays are just ways for people to get money, and to spend cash on the stupidest things.remember when that guy got trampled when all those parents wanted to buy those UGLY cabbage patch kids dolls?i tend to hate the holidays.but recently, with my GF, not that much.

Smoking is just the easy way to the end of your life. I don't reckon it should be banned, as that's not gonna happen, not with the money the tobacco industry generates. However, I say if you're going to put your life on the line, then you might as well put your savings on the line too. Raise the prices for a packet ridiculously, then watch as the world gets cleaner. Besides, most smokers couldn't give two ****s about anyone around them once they light up. I was walking down the street and some ***** almost burnt my hand because she was too busy feeling good to release she had the lit end pointing outwards. Then there are those who like to walk past children and think it's okay to smoke near them, just as long as it's not on the school grounds. It sickens me. It's like people want this http://www.chewingto...bacco-mouth.jpg and this http://static.guim.c.../smoker_372.jpg and this http://www.123muslim...tte-smoking.jpg and this http://whyquit.com/joel/buergers.jpg and this http://1.bp.blogspot...g Kills.008.jpg . I'm sorry, it's very graphic. And not only do smokers get this, but they can pass it off onto children too. Passive smoking is more or less BS. YEAH, I THINK SMOKING SHOULD BE THE **** BANNED! JUST LIKE COUGAR AGAIN, JUST FOR THE KICKS!
