I've actually had a ps3 that crapped out on me due to heating issues. when I got my new one back, I took care of it as much as possible. All you have to do is keep your ps3 with atleast 3 feet of space in all directions. I also stand mine up because on of the vents would be throwing heat right where the playstation is laying on. Fans are good but not to close as they just push dust into the ps3 causing them to die faster. but the othere guy was right when he said that ps3's barely have a heating issue. hope it helped.
