Assuming you are calling "joystick" an analog stick, I would say: yes. It would be better for 3D games, but probably this would interfere too much on the layout of buttons.
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam had amazing visuals for a GBA game.But the best one, in my opinion, is Driv3r. They managed to squeeze a GTAIII out of a GBA. AMAZING!
