This thread is going to be used to express my goals for this forum.
Myself and the rest of the staff at DGEMU.COM, like to see this site as a community. I intend to host semi regular official tournaments which will have various potential rewards depending upon what the winners want. I am fairly open minded when it comes to potential rewards. In order to help in this massive endeavor I will be looking for a group of members to help me run official tournaments as well as facilitate members in any that they wish to run themselves. All non staff organized tournaments will be considered unofficial tournaments and will be done purely for fun.
If there is a game which you would like to see us host a tournament for don't be afraid to make a thread asking for it. If we have enough of a demand then I will see what I can do to organize a tournament. The big thing to remember is that all of this is for you the members. It is my goal and my desire to see everyone get to know each other better and possibly form friendships which can transcend a forum.
General Guidelines for tournaments
-Do not exploit glitches in games.
-Please show the other people participating in the tournament respect. (Essentially what I mean by this is don't whine or name call if someone else beats you)
-Do not use bots or other programs which might give you an unfair advantage over the other players.
-Just have fun.
That is it for my guidelines. The guideline section of this thread might be amended at anytime once I get a better picture of what our tournaments will be like.
Note-I am still looking for someone to help me with Wii, PC and PS3 tournaments, if you might be interested please send me a pm.

I've seen Combat Arms being mentioned in this crevice of the forum multiple times. Happily, for me and hopefully you, I have a Combat Arms account and can run a tourney if any of you want to get one going. I wouldn't try using the forums as of now due to the fact that it's bugged (today being 05/28/09; for future reference). I can answer most of your questions here and provide you in depth info as to what you should be prepared for and should expect in case we decide to have one.
The client for the game is a somewhat big filesize (around 250 MB, pocket change to some) but I assure you, it's totally worth it. I can provide you with weapon layouts, map choices, weapon decisions, tactical information, and other information in this thread if you want me to. I'd prefer that you email me though (thanatos410@hotmail.com) However, I would like it if you were detailed. Simply saying that, "I R LIEK TO BEH TEH SNEAKIEZ AND R LIEK TO MAYKE TEH NO SOUNDZ" isn't going to help me. I'd prefer that you give me a somewhat detailed insight of how you play most FPSs so I can refer to you the optimal gear. I hope this can become a reality!
I forgot to add, if you have any questions whatsoever concerning Combat Arms, don't hesitate to email me.

I'm not trying to take over anything and this isn't meant to be an authoritative list but I figured it would hurt to build a list of legally free games people should be able to easily grab to participate in tournaments. I've tried to keep it limited to games that don't require users to sign up for an account somewhere and games that hopefully should be developed and tested enough to not be buggy. AKA I've not listed stuff that is free because it is a beta or because someone is trying to get players to spend money on items. By all means, feel free to expand this. Oh, and I'm listing them alphabetically, not by any kind of popularity contest or personal preference.

Well since no one was kind enough to offer me help in hosting the tournament,I think I have to do it myself. But I'd still be much obliged if some one could help me host the servers.
Anyways, please read the following points carefully before you decide to enter the tournament.
Structure:-*The tournament will consist of 3 rounds. Each round a certain number of players(which I will specify below)will be eliminated and the remaining will advance to the next round.
*Round 1:- So, round 1 will have 10 players. At the end of the round the top 6, i.e the top 3 in CT and the top 3 in Terrorists group will advance to the next round
*Round 2:- The top 6 players will fight, all out, and among them the top 2, i.e the highest CT and Terrorist scorer will advance to the next round
*Round 3:- And now the final round, the top 2 will fight for the top honor of DG's best CS expert.
Rules:-
*All this does sound nice and fun, but keep in mind these simple rules so it wont be a headache for me to manage you guys in the server.
*Rule 1:- No flashes and no snipers.Yup, you heard right. Now I know that some people might be disappointed with this rule, but believe me with snipers and flashes, all we'll have is a server full of 10 noobs flashing and sniping each other. So please for the sake of some well deserved pro's just get over it.
*Rule 2:-Do not flame and disrespect your opponents. If you do, well I won't just stand still, it would mean direct disqualification.
*Rule 3:-While playing in the server, please use the name of your DG account,so that it's more easier for me to identify the rule breakers or the winners.
Now for the maps.I don't have a very wide collection of maps.I have created a poll, so just vote for the map you want. The map with the highest map will be considered for
Round 1 only.So if you agree to all these terms you can sign up for the tournament.Just post which team you want to join and your done!!!Simple as that
Teams:-
Counter-Terrorists:-(3/5)
Coolguy
conan 182
Zylgo
Terrorists:-(0/5)
So, may the best man/woman win!!!!

I completely forgot about RTS games, and starcraft was fairly popular so I'm hoping quite a few DGEmu members will have it. So would you participate in a starcraft tournament?

Why not try organizing a counter strike tournament, you know it is one of the most played FPS games ever. The advantages are numerous...
The games are easily available(Although I recommend CS-Source)
There are several clients for the game like steam,X-fire...etc etc
Using the clients we can chat and organize tournaments in no time.
And including all of that, its a really fun game to play too...

The game I am talking about is CS Source.
The tournament has started. Please refer to this topic:-

Is it possible that we can held an o2jam competition?
Max of eight players can play at the same time at a server...
Although the servers are not connected worldwide but per country.
Maybe o2 jammers from specific countries with o2 jam can play together which could relate to a dgemu competition.

I'd like to participate in a Team Fortress 2 Tournament on Steam. I lack the means to host my own server so someone else who can will have to do that but, I'm sure many people here would like to try blowing each others' brains out in several comical ways.

I know doom is kinda old (Created in 1992), but now its gotten more fun then back then. Its a fps game with 2.5D graphics. Use multiplayer clients like skulltag or zdaemon (I prefer skulltag) and the original doom wad files which is not free can be replaced with one that is freely available such as FreeDoom. The tournaments could be anything, since I use Skulltag I will tell you what I think can be used for tournament from it. I will list 3 unique ones:
Deathmatch: The classic mode of play we all know and love. Simply put, players run around and attempt to kill (frag) each other. When a player dies, he respawns, and resumes trying to frag other players. Generally, a fraglimit is set, and when a player reaches that amount of frags, the level ends.
Invasion: It is a cooperative mode where the players have to fight off waves of monsters. The amount of monsters spawned each wave is determined by the skill level and the number of waves already played. Equipment is respawned after a short time in this game mode, though the number of spawns of each item is limited. The winner is the person with the most frags.
Skulltag: Skulltag, commonly abbreviated "ST," is a game mode very similar to CTF. However, there are a few key differences. First, skulltag uses skulls instead of flags as the main possession of each team. Second, instead of bringing the opponent's skull back to your skull to score a point, the skull must be placed, or "tagged," on a score pillar located somewhere throughout the map. This decoupling of flags and return spots creates an interesting, complex gameplay experience. Multiple score pillars for a single team can be placed, score pillars can be worth varying numbers of points, and score pillars can belong to either team, or both teams.
Here are some links:
