O.K This game is pretty good for a Yu-Gi Oh game, although it does have a few defects and glitches that can detract from the overall fun in the game. There have been a couple of times when one of my magic cards has been summoned to the field with 0 attack and 0 defence, but overall the game does have some good aspects
Relation to the show
This game is set during the battle city tournament, but you play as yourself and not some on screen character, unfortunately the only people you can duel are the people from the show and they all pretty much use the same cards throughout the entire game as they do in the show, which is pretty good, but there are hardly any tactics used by computer AIs in game, which means that there are several duelists that just use the one or two trap cards or just put strong monsters in the hope that your monsters are weaker.
Gameplay 6/10
The game is fun to begin with, finding all the people and discovering who they are, finding new cards making new decks, it's all fun, until you discover that to unlock new duelists and cards you have to duel the same people over and over again, until you wish that they would all go away (but hey that's just me), you might find it fun to duel the same people fifteen times with no change in the game. Also there is the possibility that once you do progress in the game and get good cards you can put them all into your deck and have an unbeatable deck which will only lose if you are incredibly bad or really unlucky. There is a limit feature which can eventually be turned off, giving you the chance to put up to 3 cards of any card in your deck (eg. three monster reborns)
Graphics 7/10
The Graphics are quite good for a gba game and especially good for a Yu-Gi Oh game. The animations for people are quite detailed, as are the landscapes behind them, however they only have the one facial expression. So there are times when a person can be giving you bad news and be smiling the entire time.
Also you can't tell what a card is when you're dueling unless you scroll over it, as the cards have just a black bit where their picture should be and there is no text. Also when you select a card for a close-up inspection the name won't fit into the screen, as quite often Yu-Gi Oh cards have really long names, other than that the graphics are quite good
Sound 6/10
The sound is pretty good, but that doesn't really convince me to buy a game. However, the sounds are quite repetative, with many little annoying selection sounds being used over and over again. Also the duels often use the same sounds. Not that it matters to me, quite often when I play gameboy I find myself listening to other sources of music and not to the gameboy because who buys a gameboy game just to listen to the music of the game
Controls
The controls are pretty easy to use, with the drawback that without looking at the game booklet it takes a while to figure out that you have to push the R button to open the main menu and to change anything about your deck. But apart from that the controls are quite easy to operate and understand (as with any gba game) and eventually become second nature, so you don't have a need to think what to push to do what you want
Replay value 4/10
The game can be pretty fun to play at the start so that part is always quite interesting and intriguing, however, when you start unlocking characters the game loses a lot of its fun, even more so when you make a deck with lots of high attack 4 star monsters which can obliterate any opponent. So, yes the game has a bit of replay value, but not much, unless your a big Yu-Gi Oh fan
Problems
The game has a number of problems, like as I discussed earlier the odd glitch, but when these glitches occur, despite meaning you might take a ton of damage when these 0 attack and 0 defence monsters are destroyed, they are quite funny and can give minutes of laughter when your premature burial becomes that monster and the monster you wanted to bring back becomes a magic card.
My Opinion is that the game is a good Yu-Gi Oh style game but is not anywhere near the caliber of other gameboy games. Unless your a massive fan of Yu-Gi Oh or someone who likes playing games with out many twists then I wouldn't buy it
