Yu-Gi-Oh - The Sacred Cards: Reviews

Game Score: 8/10
Well, this is my first review - and it's for the game: Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards. YGO: The Sacred Cards is the newest addition to the GBA Yu-Gi-Oh! games and it's in RPG format. But is that a good thing?
STORYLINE: 8/10
Basically the same as the hit TV show, this game is set around the Battle City tournament, held by Kaiba Corp. You, and your good friends Yugi and Joey decide to enter, and then the game begins!
Well, the story is nice, but could have some improvements. The story has a few twists and turns, mostly around the appearance of the 'Rare Hunters'. Characters aren't very talkative, and don't have much emotion.
The story is short and simple, probably the best for this game.
GAMEPLAY: 7/10
Unlike its two GBA predecessors, The Sacred Cards uses a new card system - a mix of EDS/WWE and Forbidden Memories. It has the Ante card system (which I personally don't like), along with monsters losing their effects. But there is one thing the makes me rate gameplay low. Monster elements. Every monster has an element + weakness. If a monster is put up against an element it's weak against - it will be DESTROYED. However, that can work in your favor - which is a good thing. Magician of Faith can become a force to be reckoned with. :)
GRAPHICS: 7/10
Basic RPG graphics, nothing amazing. The sprites of characters for the show is ABOVE average, but everything else - including the main character - is not amazing. You see some characters faces when talking to them, however all other GFX but the background are erased when this happens, which looks really bad. The cards look like their real life counterpart, which is a small highlight in this game.
SOUND/MUSIC: 8.5/10
A very great thing in this game is Sound + Music! This game has the perfect music to fit the theme of the area, feelings etc... If is mostly upbeat, a little but catchy to. This game has very few sounds, and this is pulled of very well with small, subtle tones. Overall, very nice. This would have got a better score if their was more than just a few different dueling music. Oh well.
CONTROL: 9/10
Simple GBA controls. The character moves around quite fast (which is nice, since I hate walking for ages to get to another place) and can sprint by holding down B. The only fault is having to press R to duel people. I would've preferred an option to duel at the end of the text. Simple and sweet.
REPLAY VALUE: 7/10
The game sorts of lacks here. The game really doesn't change over time, and the only real thing to do is collect all the cards, which takes MUCH longer than in EDS/WWE. The story is same old, the opponents don't change - and it's just like playing a platform game with only one way to go. It would have been much lower, if it wasn't for the card collection feature.
FINAL NOTE:
A good game, and try at an RPG - but could have been better. If the story and game was longer and the dueling was the same as in EDS/WWE this game would have been the best. Rent or Buy? Buy if you like YGO, but if you don't then don't bother even renting... or you can download it here.
