Lil' Monster is a cute RPG that is similar to other monster raising games such Monster Rancher and Pokemon at a first glance. However, this game stands apart by having an interesting battle system in the form of gems. Each gem have spawn a different monster that you can use. Gems also serve the purpose as attacks and form a deck, similar to a deck of cards. When the battle starts, you get four random gems that can be used as attacks. Once used, you get another gem.

The monsters in Lil' Monsters are one of the cutest I have ever seen, even though it is only on Game Boy Color. What prevents this game from getting a better score as the gameplay becomes slightly repetitive as the story isn't that strong and it takes a while for you monster to level up. Overall, Lil' Monsters is a cute and very underrated game that should definetly have been more popular than it was.
