Mario Party: Reviews

Game Score: 9/10

Gameplay: 8/10

This game is always overlooked. In my opinion its the best of the entire series including those that came out on Gamecube. No other editions quite improved on this game in a good way. Mario Party today is too wierd and complex and just isn't fun. Its great to come back and play through this classic. The Mario characters are all here to play in a set of awesome mini games and compete on game boards. Its an incredibly fun experience and the rules of the original are the best in the series. The gameplay could only get better with more boards and mini games, which is what the sequels boast but they change the board game rules (eg you pay coins to koopa instead of recieving each time you pass him).

Graphics: 8/10

The graphics are all authentically Mario. DK gets rough treatment though and doesn't look quite right. All the others are here and animate well. The boards are prerendered but they work. The mini games have had thought put into them and most look very good. Animation of all objects is smooth here to the expanding of squares as you go over to them to the dice block. Everything in this game breathes and it results in a wonderful presentation.

Sound: 9/10

Great tunes that are all Mario as well as the characters voiceovers which compete in humour with those of MK64. The soundtrack makes each game really exciting and battling it out has never been more fun.

Multiplayer: 10/10

If there's one thing that maes this game its multiplaer. Its one of the best multiplayer games ever made. It deserves a 20/10 because it just excels in this area. Playing mini games and duking out with friends has never been so satisfying and when you get three other friends around to play you'll be in for a real rewarding experience.

Lasting Appeal: 8/10

While Multiplayer will rope people in again and again and frankly, never gets boring the singleplayer experience is not as rewarding and can tire quickly. Still there is a lot to do, items to unlock that induce new twists to gameplay that don't dissapoint. You'll want to get all these to make the multiplayer more fun. Fun with one does expire but fun with friends will last forever.
