Kirby 64 - The Crystal Shards: Reviews

Game Score: 7/10

Kirby: The Crystal Shards is a great game in my opinion, playable for all, though somewhat lacking to the original concepts, makes it's due in other, and newer ways to enjoy the game. Now, let's get started!

Graphics - 8/10
Kirby in 3D, and just in my opinion: It's done right. Kirby is still simplistic as ever when it comes to appearance, yet shows his work in pure art as he wonders through the stages. The backgrounds are nicely done, the monsters are decent for 64 graphics, and the animation isn't too bad! Some what likable, though 3D will not appeal to junkies of perhaps, Kirby Superstar.

Gameplay: 7/10
Now, I know Gameplay antics are the most important, so the low grade here won't make it look too shabby, but it still takes the cake of something that's probably worth playing. If you've played a lot of the older Kirby games, it will seem far too out of place. However, it makes up in a new feature added: ability mixing. No more same old powers. Time to get Flame-sword Kirby, Ice-skating Kirby, and a lot more! If you aren't satisfied in mixing your two favored abilities, you can mix them with them with each other. Forget the rock ability, (which in this game you can move around while being stone.) and become a giant one, or perhaps get the saw-blade boomerang ability! Very great details in the game with mixing abilities. Though not all will make sense, however. Also, note that the game is much more slow paced than the classics.

Sound - 6/10
The music in Crystal Shards are very basic and standard, as will be the sound, some you will recognize from the older Kirby games, but seeing as how Zelda has used Link's voice over and over in their series, this one still isn't too lacking. Certainly not the main reason for playing the game.

Storyline - 5/10
At first glance in the storyline into the depths of Kirby; you will notice there is no dialogue. This is because it is in-fact Kirby, which for so many years now has not had story-line dialogue (other than Metaknight's Revenge in Superstar.) and thus for stereotypical doesn't have a basic storyline. The game, in all it's dramatic introductions to the game (A.K.A. a bunch of fairies flying around like butterflies.) you will realize it is lacking story-line. Though, seen as kirby has never had a dialogue storyline or anything seen in some role-playing games. However, on the other hand of note is the fact that if I gave it a zero, people would be flaming me, and this would effect the average of my total grade.

So there you have it. Kirby 64 - The Crystal Shards has served my purpose of gradual entertainment as long as it has lasted for me, and it can for you to. I give it a 7/10.
