Metroid Prime Pinball: Reviews

Game Score: 9/10

Getting the most out of this game requires that you like pinball games and Metroid. In particular, a familiarity with Metroid Prime helps since the tables available in this game are based on locations from the GameCube title. Gameplay is what you'd expect from a pinball game with a few twists and innovations thrown in. In particular, the game takes real advantage of its source material. Initially there are two tables available for play and you must, by hitting certain spots or taking out certain opponents, gather artifacts. It's easier than it sounds, but once you have enough, you can travel to the special boss-level tables. Take out the bosses, gain more artifacts and you're good to head to the temple table. I won't spoil the surprise regarding what happens after that, but it is well worth it.

So, what kind of neat ideas does this game have? Here's a couple:
(1) The pinball itself has "life points" and can be destroyed if you're not careful. Metroids regularly appear and like to grab the ball and suck some energy out of it. (hey, remember the ball is just Samus rolled up, right?)

(2) Boss-level tables. Ok, we've seen this in other games (think Pokemon Pinball!), but it's still a neat idea.

(3) Weapons! You can leave little powerbombs behind and collect missiles and super powerbombs. You may not be able to use them all the time..but hey, they're a nice change of pace.

In all, I highly recommend this game to pinball fans out there. It's a nice little package.
