Bleach DS Souten ni Kakeru Unmei

Bleach DS is a 2D action fighting game a la Tekken. Those who have watched the anime or read the manga will find that Bleach contains an incredible roster covering most of the major characters in the first story arc, even including Bonnie, Ganju's pig.

Players are treated to many modes - among them arcade, story and challenge. At first players will have to play as Ichigo in story mode, the biggest and the main story. However don't expect this to be the end of the story as after beating Ichigo's story mode, you will unlock more story modes for other characters to play as. This will let you see the broad storyline in each character's perspective. The main fight is taken place in the top screen, whilst the bottom, touch screen is used for the game's card system, called Reifu. Basically you can touch the cards during battle to get boosts to your stats. Also you can fill your touch screen with the special attacks so you can just touch the corresponding skill and don't have to press all those button combinations =). The battle system is very technical, having a wide variety of moves. There are two types of special attacks, Super moves, RF specials. Super moves used up your Reiatsu (The green bar under your life gauge) and RF specials use up your Reiryoku (the 3-segmented bar at the bottom of the screen). The Reiryoku is also used to flash jump.

The game has decent sounds, with voice-overs, although this can get a tad annoying in the thick of battle when multiple characters are shouting Japanese. Also, Bleach DS sports a Sound Gallery to view, or rather, listen to the sounds which you can acquire via Urahara's Shop.
It's graphics is pretty good for a DS and it even has a gallery mode to view all the pictures you buy in the Shop.
The multiplayer system is very good, it's download play allows players to battle each other with all the characters that you have unlocked to choose from. There is, however, a downside to this as the loading times are massive compared with other games but this gets quicker after couple matches.

All in all, this game is surprisingly fun for me, even though I don't really enjoy this style of games and it would've been even better had I known more Japanese. Definitely worth the DP's it costs.
