The main question flutering around the boards: is this game worth it?
I say yes. I have the Gameboy Advance version of this game, and I still love this game.
-Graphics- 7/10
Not much of the graphics changed from the fourth mega man game, but the internet
has a good selection of colors that go well togehter. When the internet is controled by Nebula, the internet is PURE AWSOME I TELL YOU!
-Story- 8/10
This game features the mostly overused sytem: A bad guy appears, and a hero appears to stop the bad guy. Howerver, this game has the ocasional plot twist that frenshens the storyline.
In this game, Everyone has a PET, or PErsonal Termoile. Inside the PET, Is a net Navi that has all the emotions of a normal human, but with the power to "Virus Bust" and the abbility to be sent into the internet.
Here's the deal, While Visiting Lan(Main character)'s dad to see a surprise with your friends, the internet is taken over, and Lan's dad is kidnapped. Lan then joins a team that tries to reclaim the Internet. Basic, but fits with the game.
-Gameplay- 100/10
This is where the game shines. During the game, you play as either Lan(In the real world) or MegaMan(In the cyberworld). When Walking around as lan, you can send mega man into a electronical device to kick virus butt. this proccess is called "Jacking In"
Once jacked in, you can get the dreadfully overused random encounters. Once in a battle, 5/30 random special attacks(called Battle chips) appear in a window. You can only pick one special attack per turn unless they have the same "Chip Code". Once you choose, MegaMan will appear on a 3x9 battle field devided in half. Half of the field is red, and the other half blue. Mega Man is only able to move on the red squares. You can Press the A button here to use selected special attacks. You can only use each one once. Or, you can press the B button to use a weak but fast little blaster thing. Once the bar at the top of the screan is full, you are able to choose more Battle Chips.
What makes this different from the other four games you may be asking? Liberation missions.
Once in a liberation mission, you have the options to control any Navis on your team. This turns this game into a Almost Tatics style game, where you must "Liberate" Dark panels to get to the boss.
When you Liberate, you fight a virus, and the more dark panels surronding the navi, the harder the battle is. You can even be surronded by viruses!
In a liberation mission, you have 3 Turns to defeat the viruises. If you don't, the liberation is FAILED.
Dark Chips also had a MAJOR overhaul from the previouis game. Now, instead of randomly getting them when doing bad in battle, you can actually put them in your 30 chip folder! There is also a Chaos Unision that adds a whole new section of risk vs reward.
-Changes from GBA to DS- 10/10
One of the biggest changes, is that you can choose to play either the team Protoman or team Colonel version of the game. Also, the In game menu has been improved greatly, and everything about it is touchbased.
Also, you can put in other mega man games into the GBA slot in the DS to do cool things like power up mega man or change the battle music!
Also, the coolest thing about the DS version, is you have a "party system" that you can use! You can put two partner Navis on there, and switch megaman out for them at any time during a battle! The only drawback is you can't use this in certain areas, and you can't use it during liberation missions.
When playing the DS version after playing the GBA version, the DS version feels like a WHOLE NEW GAME!
-Rent or Buy-
Depends. If you already have the GBA version and you are wondering wheather to trust me on my fealings then rent. If you have never played the GBA version or never played a MegaMan game before, then BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY! *Gets shot*
