Great game. Not worthy of a ten due to some minor control problems but heres the lowdown:
I downloaded this game because I had heard of guilty gear and figured I would give it a shot and see if I like it.
Actually, I really do. I find myself playing the game at least once through a day. The arcade mode is fast and furious and for some reason I like this game almost more then any other fighting game I've ever played. I'll have to check into the other Guilty Gears.
Now, graphically the game is very pleasing. It makes your eyes happy to look at. The graphics are almost comical. Each character is fully detailed and each level has a detailed background. The attacks are done pretty well too, however, I'd like to add a note on the speed towards the end of the review.
As for the sound, it gets you pumped. Plain and simple. I love playing games where the music makes you feel as excited as the music really is.
The sound effects are crips and solid despite the speed issue.
Controls..... Controls..... How to say this nicely. This will prevent alot of people from liking the game. The controls can be a little annoying to get into due to the fact that turning your character around in the middle of a fight can be a bit of a challenge because the game operates on a backward dash motion. The game isn't always aware of when your trying to turn around or when your trying to back up. It can actually affect the integrity of the gameplay because if your getting beat just because you can't keep up with the enemy's movement then your not going to enjoy the game. Some people will get used to it and learn to deal with it. To guard simply don't move. You can use this to put yourself into a good timing for turning around until you get used to the flow.
Speed. I'm not going to average speed into the overall rating because the speed of this game when playing it on a SuperCard is primarily affected by the speed of the card your using. I'm using a SuperCard SD (One) so the speed is affected by the speed of the microSD card I'm using.
When the fight lasts for a while the game can start to lag. The sound and music might skip for a moment during the intro to each fight as the graphics load in the background. But I won't factor this because the actualy game doesn't lag.
Overall. I'd say the game is really great. If you have a large enough card to fit 64MB of extra space of you want to get the real thing I recommend it if your going to get it used. That way fi you don't like it you can return it. The games playability is highly dependant on the user's preference. If the sticking controls bug you so much then you won't like it. If you can fight past that you'll have a great time playing this. Even for 5 minutes at a time.
Graphics: 10. Assuming the real version doesn't lag after a 15 minute fight against Gig ( a main boss ) the graphics are some of the best for the DS.
Sound: 10. - The sound is clear and concise. For a NDS game this has one of the best music qualities of any other game.
Control: 7. Only because I feel that the backing up/turning around is really that much of a bother for anyone who is even less of a casual fighter game player then me.
Overall: 9. - The controls don't affect it enough to kill the game. Just enough to keep it from being a perfect 10. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
