Welcome back to the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser is back, along with his son, Bowser Jr. and they are ready to cause some trouble. Once again princess Peach is kidnapped by Bowser and his son and it is up to the super mario brothers to travel through the many areas of the Mushroom Kigndom, collecting coins, eating mushrooms and stomping baddies until they come to the ultimate face off between Bowser and son.

The New Super Mario Brothers takes the time aged classic of the orginal Super Mario Brothers and turbo charges. It still has the simple style of gameplay.. run, jump and collect powerups, but now Mario and Luigi are given a slew of new skills and power-ups. The graphics have also been updated to a wondeful 3-D rendered world full of color and adventure.

Mario and Luigi can run and jump but now they can also jump kick off of walls to get to even higher heights then before. Along with those skills comes a who new collection of power-ups. Back are the classic mushrooms and fireflowers but now there are new power-ups to complement the new style game.

Now the brothers also have mini mushrooms, giant mushrooms and a blue turtle shell to help them along the way. Finding a mini mushroom will grant you the power to shrink to tiny sizes and with that you are light as air. Now you can jump 4 times higher then before and run over the surfaces of the water. The giant mushrooms will grow the bros to monstrous proportions, allowing them to crush pipes, blocks and smash all forms of baddies. The blue shell allows the brothers to travel at break neck speeds while inside the shell, keeping them almost invincable (fall down a pit and its game over..)

All of your favorite monsters are back, along with some new ones. You will see goombas and koopa-troopas, but now there are also bats, sharks and giant spiders. Now each world also features larger then life bosses too that usually resemble super sized classic monsters such as goombas and piranna plants.

How do you travel through the Mushroom Kingdom? Good question! Back is the classic map style from Super Mario Brothers 3. Each world has multiple stages, with multiple paths and mushroom houses to give you power-ups. Each world also features a number of castles, along with a larger one at the end, where you will face off to try and save the princess.

There are a total of 8 worlds in the New Super Mario Brothers, but if you expect to see them all, you will have to play through the game a few times. As I stated before, there are multiple paths, and that means it is possible to skip some worlds while seeing others.

The game has high replayablity, not only with all the hidden stages and areas, but also due to the fact they introduce once again the Star Coins. This time you use the Star Coins to unlock hidden paths and trigger a save point. Each stage in each world will have a total of 3 hidden Star Coins. Each castle will also have 3 Star coins. And trust me, it will take a lot of hard work to find all the coins in all the stages.

Another great aspect of the game is the music and sound affects. Many of the world theme songs are very catchy and new, but are also reminisant of older classic Super Mario music we have all come to love and savor.

In the end, this game manages to bring to the table a brand new game with a whole new style, while still keeping to traditions that made the Super Mario line so great to begin with. If you haven't played this game yet, you need to now.
