When first playing this game, the most intriguing thing off the bat, was the gradius-like weapon selection. This adds a bit of surprising customization to the gameplay.
This game gives you the option of using the very "pong" like L and R buttons to move your paddle, or (for those of you who are used to the infamous Javanoid) use the touch screen. I prefer touch screen controls; they are quick, accurate, and easy.
The gameplay is fun and challenging, but the graphics look like GBA graphics. I think they only put this on the DS because it would sell like crap on the GBA now.
So, I jump right into quest mode, because, like in all games, I have to play the story mode FIRST! The boss battles are creative, and challenging, but I little lacking. As I progress forward, they get better and better though. The infinite continues help also.
The survival mode (no continues at all... not even ONE!) its rad. i like the randomizer. This could keep me playing for quite some time.
Another thing me and my friends found was that the "warlords" meets "asteroids" 8 player mode is chaotically fun. So if you have 4 friends, it’s worth pooling 5 bucks each just for the multiplayer. The quest race, I could do without.
What would make this game better? In my opinion, I would have liked to see a pong-like Vs. mode, or something to the effect of the "push mode" on Tetris DS.
7 for Presentation, the top screen not necessary, but very simple, in a good way.
4 for Graphics, looks like a GBA game.
8 for Sound, the music is quite catchy. It has the same appeal as old NES music. Sound effects are not corny... yeah.
9 for Gameplay, quick, accurate, fun with the touch screen. Don’t even use the L and R buttons... unless you want to...
Overall: 7 out of 10
