"Rune Factory", Rune factory is not a bad game but its not a wonderfully good game, for a few different reasons, anyways you start off your virtual life as a teen who's name is raguna or what ever you choose, You stumble apon a house that belongs to a farmer girl Mist, after a few seconds of looking around you then pass out, she rushes out of her house, after you come too, you then obtain two different farming tools, A hoe and a water pale, After recieving those two items from her she then allows you to stay in a extra house thats complete with a bed, a counter with a book, a shelf, and a screen shot painting. but before you get to explore your new location, you are then granted a taste of the fighter side of your character, the conversation you were about to have is interrupted by the arrival of a monster, which you then fend off with your hoe, causing it to be sent back to its original location. The game then offers you a few things to ask which to a person who is new to the game will indeed be very useful...to a limit. Just bout every day mist will come by your house and you will be able to talk to her and receive random information from her about the game and how some things work. When you finish with her you will be able to explore almost the entire map except for areas where passes are needed. Theirs A town and stairs leading to it, to the north of your house. Theirs a few shops which for the time being you wont be able to afford just about anything from yet until you increase the amount of money you have. Their are 11 different potential wives you can marry in the game, and 16 different villagers you can interact and build a friend ship with, Because the game was meant to have a fantasy warrior side, They have added some new features, for example now they have monsters (which they sorta had implemented into harvest moon DS) that you can fight to help raise one of your skills. They've added a point system that displays your atk, def, rp, ect. You can now use magic, and buy or forge different types of weapons and acceseries. Like in the harvest moon series they have animals (monster things) that resemble Chickens, Sheeps , And Cows that can be harvested for milk giant eggs or wool.
You are given an enourmas field where all types of seeds can be planted, like straw berries and radishes and if you want even flowers. Like in harvest moon Ds theirs Caves that contain fields where you can plant things according to the "set" climate of the cave (Spring,Summer,Fall,Winter). You have the option to expand your house and remodel it for a price. Like in all the harvest moon games you are able to upgrade, tools using ores from the multible mines.
I give this game an 8.0 for graphics. The sprites are not really detailed and they at times tend to look like they are missing parts like the legs, but the scenery was very well done, and animated, and for those who are fans of the seasonal changes you'll be very satisfied at how each season has their own beautiful distinct look and the scenery is very detailed as well. i give the sound a 9.0. They had an assortment of melody's to go with your current location, unlike in the previous harvest moons, the music was'nt repeated as often for every little thing so every building or dungeon you enter does not play the same track over and over. What i disliked about the game was, well the scenery was good, but they should have leaned towards 2D more then they used 3D, Because you could not adjust the view in any way, for example when you walk into a fenced area it looks smaller then its supposed to be which made the quality of the town look a bit, poor. In the game you can get married just like in the other HM's except that they decided to leave a whole chunk of the family part of the game out, for example you are able to have a baby after one year of marriege, but yet they no matter who you marry the baby sprite looks the same for each wife, and he does not move past the toddler stage and remains with in the mothers arms at all times, that really decreased my interest in continuing to that point, but i did anyways, they also decided to make the wife stay with in the house at all times, obviously showing that the natsumae did'nt really put any effort on that part of the game.
Overall the game was fun many new features to enjoy, doing other things besides farming was a wonderful option to add, the fact that they added a whole new meaning to exploration and role play in HM made the game even more better to play, for any fans of fantasy games and Harvest moon, i suggest you play this game even if it does come off as dull in the beginning it will become better you continue. - Dead Red
