Winning Eleven DS: Reviews

First of all, something not everyone might be aware of: Winning eleven is pro Evolution Soccer in Europe. This game is the king of most european PS2s and Xboxs, and it is also available on PSP. I was really excited when I heard it was being release on my beloved Nintendo DS, with a wireless mode too; therefore, i couldnt wait for the eurpean version and got this Japanese version first, since I found it really cheap on playasia.com.
This said, let me also add that this review is based upon the friendly match mode, as I do not speak japanese and it really is not that easy to navigate through kanjis :D
Well, I started up the game, picked up a team (Italy) and a second team (Wales) and started a game...
If you are used to Pro Evolution Soccer on a PS2, the mapping of the keys will be very familiar... the touch screen is used to change tactics on the fly, very useful and well implemented.
The game has the typical PES feeling... yet i feel it too much flawed to be up the the standards set by other versions of the game... and the main reason is that the game has very bad slowdowns when the penalty area gets a bit crowded... if you add this to the fact that overall the game is extremely slow, there's not much to be happy about. The ball runs on the pitch sooo slooow it's almost unbelievable.
Overall, the graphics are not that great.
But I wouldn't really care about this, as long as the game is good fun. Unfortunately, it is not. or, it is not as you would expect by a konami soccer game.
The slowdowns are deadly.
If you want some good news abou the game... well, I guess the game is not THAT bad. It is playable after all. And can give you some fun.
It is online, so that should be fun too.
There is a master league where you can buy and sell players and build your dream team...
I couldnt really try out this features because of the language barrier, but I'm sure the feats are there.
I just hate the sloooooooowness of this game. Why not doing it 2D if 3D is too much to handle for konami on a DS?
