Digimon World DS- Digimon or Digital monsters were one of the shows to arise with Pokemon's success and while their games weren't mentioned as much they in their own right were true to its own story. Now this game takes the Digi-World once again and puts it into a neat RPG format. This title provides us with a cool 200 Digimon to see and Digivolve our way through.
Story - You are a curious boy (or girl) who hears on the news about Digital Monsters and one day you decide to check on computer for yourself about these digital monsters, after a nifty little scene with the search engine you are sucked into the computer and into the Digital world where you will being your adventure to become the King Tamer. Along the way you can do quest to attain a higher friendship level with your Digimon and other things that the game will guide you to.
Graphics - The game takes on a pseudo-3D look, meaning there is a set background (or the ground) and the rest is all sprites. The towns and dungeons have a simple look and your Digimon are easily recognizable which is a plus. Overall the game looks great as the graphics it uses fit the purpose they need to do although be simple.
Gameplay - In this game you are able to have 6 Digimon with you at all times and up to 3 of them can be with you in battle while the other 3 is in reserve for substitutions. As you start a battle first you will "scan" them and then a percent number will appear. This is scan data which is used to gain more digimon once you reach a minimum of 100% you can go to your Digi-Farm and create that digimon. The farm is basically a day care for your Digimon, they stay and train and gain exp and stats while in your farm(s) through training devices that you can purchase in the respective store. The battles themselves are turn based and incorporate little things to make it more interesting. Now onto the digivolving, to digivolve you can go into your menu and take a look at the requirements needed, some may just be a "Need to get to X level" while others may be "Need X Machine XP" or "Need 80% Friendship" while initially you can only go one route, when you can reverse the digivolving the maximum level and stats go up allowing you to traverse different routes.
Sound - In this game, the sound is just okay- it may seem that some of the selections don't quite fit the area or something but there is nothing wrong essentially with the sound. Just personal preference shys me away from liking some of the selections.
Replayability - After beating the game you get the title "Tamer King" but there are still 200 digimon to get in all! So if you're a completion fanatic then getting these digimon will take a bit of time to acheive but other than that aspect there may not be much else you can do after beating the actual storyline.
Overall - This is a great game for any Digimon fan and anyone looking for a decent RPG game to tide them over for the time being, this game however sometimes makes you need to level up for a good bit before being able to beat a boss and sometimes it seems that this is the only thing that's keeping you from advancing further at a quicker pace. In the end this game is geared towards the Digimon fans or those who love any RPG game in general, otherwise you may find this game to be not your cup of tea.
