Puzzle Series Vol 6 - Illust Logic: Reviews

Game Score: 10/10

This is a game of a type of puzzle that goes by many names. Old school Gameboy kids may remember "Mario's PiCross" the best, but I've also heard "Edel," "Nonogram," "Paint By Logic," etc. etc. Essentially, the puzzle is like an empty sheet of graph paper with a series of numbers along the top and left side. The numbers tell you how many filled in squares are in each row and column. And by using logic, you fill out the entire grid, and reveal a picture at the end. These puzzles are enormously popular in Japan & also in Europe, but have yet to gain a foothold against sudoku in the US.

This game is in Japanese, but is done by the same people who did "Sudoku Gridmasters" in English. This game has pretty much the same architecture as Sudoku Gridmasters. So, if you know Gridmasters, you'll have no problem navigating through the game if you can't read Japanese. And even if you have never played Gridmasters, the game structure & getting to the puzzles is pretty intuitive.

There are four levels of regular gameplay: 10x10, 15x15, 20x20, and 25x25. The grid is on the bottom screen, and you can use the stylus or cursor to fill in squares. Very easy and inituitive to work these puzzles. After trying PiCross (also Japanese), I really prefer this version better. It just allows you to work the puzzle without telling you that you've made a mistake (PiCross might be able to do that, but I don't read Japanese, so I can't tell it to do that). My biggest complaint about the game is that on the bigger grids, the numbers are a little difficult to read. And, sometimes numbers like "15" can appear like "5" which drastically changes the puzzle!

There is also a "ranking" mode that I haven't tried yet. Getting to the ranking mode is all in Japanese, but if you've got Gridmasters, it's identical.

I'm a big fan of these "Pi-Cross" puzzles, and this is the best game I've seen for this puzzle, yet. In ANY format: PC, GameBoy, etc. This one is the quickest to pick up, and hardest to put down. If you love "Pi-Cross" puzzles, this is the game you want.
