Full Metal Alchemist - Dual Sympathy: Reviews

Game Score: 7/10

Full metal alchemist (at least in my opinion) is one of the greatest animes to ever hit US shores. It has a deep plot, great philisophical aspects and overall just a great show. This game isn't quite up to the task of living up to the show but a good play none the less. The game itself is more or less a Beat-em-up style game. You sidescroll through level beating numerous enemies with alchemy and raw fists. It is unique because you have edward and alphonse to choose from, sometimes you must play both charachters seperately or you can switch between them at any time.

What makes this a bit of an more then average beat-em-up styled game is the use of the touch screen during battle. you draw a variety of simple symbols to perform an ever growing list of alchemy spells such as cannons, spawning stone minions. A great point is that this makes for a very diverse array of attacks to choose from. This produces a very satisfying battle experience.

The bad is this game is entirely too short (4 hours at most for me) it does follow the show very faithfully following the plot and creating some really cool boss battles.

Graphics are good on the DS, it could be compared to a high quality Playstation 2-d sidescroller in it's basic style and execution. the touch screen makes for a unique experience and is used in an entertaining style throughout the game. Puzzles and challenging bosses does keep it challenging... but not very.

Overall i would rate this game 7/10

Breakdown:

Gameplay: 7
Unique use of touch screen but fairly repeditive battle

Graphics: 8
Nice stuff for a 2-D sidescroller, probably the best aspect of the game.

Sound: 6
Nothing too impressive, music gets kindof boring after a while. so - so attempt

Fun: 8 if your a fan of FMA, 6 for everyone else

REplay value: 2
once you've played it... you've played it. Not a whole lot of reason to return to it

Conclusion:
If you have a DS and you are a fan like FMA like me maybe you should rent it or spend some DP's to give it a shot. But definately wouldn't pay too much to pick up this game. If you don't care for the series it might be better to pass this one by.
