I admit, I'm a sucker for all these weird japanese games, ever since the PSX, when I first got to play these games, I got addicted to these funny voices and beautiful writing, too bad I can't read any of it, but whatever......
I'm a sucker for Puyo Puyo games too.....they are not original, just Tetris with blobs right? They're not even pretty, but I guess the way the difficulty builds up attracts me.
I was very happy to see a 15th anniversary edtition of my fave puzzle game, and of course, had to play the Japanese version.
So what do you get? Simple everything you got from the other Puyo games, arrange the falling blobs with the same colour, so that they make one big blob that will go plop....and while you're at it....try to make chains, nothing special here......
Visuals are not stunning either, if you saw one Puyo game over the last five years you'll know what you get now....but overall the playfiekd is a bit too small, especially in multiplayer they should have gone for the use of both screens, like in Tetris DS.
Sound is ok, ok in my book is when it's not annoying......
The best thing about this game is the online multiplayer.....You van go head to head or even with 3 other people showing your skills, or in my case, my lack of skills over the Wifi network......
Is this Japanese version playable for us western folks? Yes it is, just a matter of trying all the buttons for a few minutes gives you a good idea what game mode is under what button.....
Fans of the genre should get this game for the online multiplayer options....which leaves me to giving this game a score of 8.
