Hotel Dusk - Room 215: Reviews

Game Score: 9/10

Hotel Dusk. The name sounds like that of some grubby motel.

Welcome back to the late 70s. You are Kyle Hyde, a former NYPD officer who lost his friend, and your direction in life 3 years ago. Since that time, you joined a company named Red Crown, searching for that which is lost (what is this, GetBackers?).

December 28th, 1979. You find yourself sent to stay at the Hotel Dusk. Inside is a cranky old man who's the owner and front desk clerk. As you wander the hotel, you meet an old lady who's maid and cook, a snobby lady in 216, a nervous young guy in 213, a little brat playing on the stairs, and many more guests that help the game come to life.

Graphically, the game has a very unique style, featuring half-3D rendered graphics and half pencil drawings (mainly for the characters). This style brings something unique to the game.

The Japanese version is called "Wish Room", which is what Room 215 is called...Wish. According to the legend, the room is suppose to grant wishes. Yes, sounds far fetched. But this is one of the secrets of the game which you will learn, along with a number of other things that will engross you in this wonderful story.

The music is clean, crisp, and doesn't distract you. You may even forget it's there, it just blends in beautifully with the atmosphere.

Controls are entirely done with touch screen, which is good, given it's tilted layout (though you can use the L/R buttons to speed up already read dialogue).

For most people, you'll only find yourself playing it once through, as typically with most storybook style games. But even considering this, you'll REALLY enjoy this game. It's unique graphic style, responsive controls, interesting (though sometimes really simplistic) puzzles, and unique set of characters will suck you in and want to learn everything about the game.

Will your wish come true?
