Diddy Kong Racing DS: Reviews

Somehow Diddy Kong managed to get his own racing game back on the N64 after the success of DK64. This game instantly became a cult classic with it's many tracks, fun battle modes, and tight controls. But does the DS version measure up?

Controls: 8/10 The controls are the same as the N64, but with a major difference. No analog stick. While the control pad does an adequate job it seems too sensitive. And the new meathods of getting a pre-race boost seem tacked on. But all in all, it works.

Gameplay 7.5/10 The normal racing is fun, and the Track Creator, while slightly cheesy, adds new life to the game. But the new 'touch challenges' are ofttimes annoying and almost impossible to perfect. Stick to the racing.

Graphics 7/10 The graphics seem good as you race, and are adequate to display what is going on. But close up they turn rediculously poorly detailed. Do we really still need square smoke?

Fun Factor 9.5/10 However, all these things can't take away the charm of the game. It's just fun to race against friends and family and then take it online. The create a track multiplayer is interesting to say the least and of course it doesnt have the Great Evil. Snaking. Diddy Kong Racing is an overall fun game despite its flaws.
