Harvest Moon DS: Reviews

Review: Harvest Moon DS (European Version)
PROS:
1. Glitches have been fixed
For those who have been playing the US version of the game, you will find out that the most infamous glitches such as the Ghost Town glitch (the people in the valley disappear suddenly) and the Sheep/Horse Milking glitch have been corrected. You will also find that some translation errors have been corrected. No more unintelligible gibberish!
2. Same great game!
Aside from that, you will find that the game still has pure, unadulterated Harvest Moon fun. Planting crops, raising animals, befriending the people, mining, fishing and even marriage still comprise this HM game.
3. Music
The music is superb, with farm sounds and a range of music depending on the mood, from the Witch's spooky tunes to the cute sounds of the Baby Sprite. Great for a HM game!
CONS
1. Controls
THe controls are a bit frustrating since you had to use the stylus mouse the same time as the keypad. I was used to the HM: FoMT GBA controls, so for all of you who are used to VBA, using the controls might be tricky at first.
2. Graphics
I expected more. The graphics still look like the GBA games! Unfortunately for the designers, the images look very dated, compared to the cooler 3D graphics of most new DS games.
3. Slow Introduction
The should have shortened the opening sequence. You still need about five minutes before you could even control yourself!
4. Other than that, I missed the Black Jack and the Poker games in the US Version. For gamblers out there, sorry.
How to play
The top screen shows the game area where your player moves through FOrget-me-not Valley. You will be able to see the season, the time of the day and the current weather here.
The bottom screen is the control area where dialogue, figures and current status is shown. You can save and load here by clicking the book icon. You can also access your bag, view your farm status and even watch TV from this screen!
Basically, you control your character to be the most successful farmer in the Valley. Your ultimate goals are to raise money, get married, have a child and finally being able to retire.
Overall Review:
This game is great for those who can't stand the innumerable glitches and translation errors of the US version. The graphics are, however, the game's weak point. But don't judge the gameplay by the graphics alone! HM games are always challenging, fun and worth it. However, for those who are just starting on a Harvest Moon game, I suggest you try first Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town on the GBA.
Last words:
You will definitely enjoy it. Get it immediately from the site! (I suggest using No$gba v2.4a as the emulator)
