Brothers in Arms

It's basically another World War II game but of course there has been some significant changes for the DS. It is a very short game which means you can probably beat it within a day of struggle with the "mighty" Germans on your DS.

STORY
Well it's like every other WWII story now...in this game you are fighting the Germans, and basically from the start of the game till the end that's all you're doing. At the start of the game you have the choice of 3 missions (yes a measly three) and of course they are splitted into sub-missions (which range about 5-6). So basically don't expect a deep and complex story, its AIM and SHOOT.

GAMEPLAY
Ok, its pretty horrid in this game, you kill Germans and have to complete the mission, but of course in order to extend the sub missions by a few minutes they ask you to plant bombs or anti air weapons here and there. So while you're plowing through the field, you're also placing bombs and so forth along the way.

Don't get me going on the AI, cause there is alot of work to be done with your team mates. They are quite the soldiers in battle, while I'm busy fighting a group of Germans they sit there watching me wrestle and attempt to outsmart those Germans. Not only are they useless but they even respawn...there does the realism of WWII games.

You also get to control some vehicles such as tanks and jeeps, but sadly it is unrealistic once again. If only in real life we can have instant turning vehicles with perfect accuracy or stop immediately by pressing the brake button. Remember those war movies where tanks slowly turn their aim to a spot and then gives the enemy 10 billion minutes to run for cover? Well not in this game, the tank turns so fast you think it was on some crazy futuristic technology/upgrade from your main base. haha.

The game is pretty easy and it guides you a bit too much since enemies are open targets since they are tagged with a giant marker on top of their heads. It's like they want to get shot. You have infinite ammo, all you have to worry about is reloading. Also you cant move while you're zooming in, so its hard to get into that feel since alot of first person shooter games you can actually move (but just not at the normal speed). Realism is really lacking in the battles as I got hit by many bullets and even got hit by grenades and somehow i still survived the battles to take on more Germans.

And last of all the game is very glitchy, enemies may spawn anywhere, I mean anywhere. One time I was getting shot by a German that was IN THE GROUND. Talk about glitchy...Sometimes the vehicles get stuck on walls and other obstacles...I just feel that this game was hastily made without much testing.

GRAPHICS
Everything looks nice...from a distance...once you get close to the objects it becomes blocky and of course pretty big with pixels. Sometimes alot happens on your screen and thus really heats up your DS hard ware and thus you can see the drop in frame rates. Other than that its like every other 3D DS game, a bit rough.

SOUND
Well at least this is one thing they got right, its pretty decent from the sounds of the bullets whizzing by and the calls from your team mates. It does make up for the lack of music, but don't expect a great WWII music score

REPLAYABILITY
Very Low...I say this because the missions being offered is very limited, only three missions that consists of a few sub missions. I am really telling you that this game will not make you want to pick it up again and replay the levels, even when they offer the levels to be on a harder difficulty, it still isn't very fun.

OVERALL
Its kinda fun, and I use that loosely. It's fun in the fact that you can go around and kill all the Germans you want and relieve your stress on these polygon models but it's not fun when the missions feel like a greater being is guiding you on battles but lacks on guiding you with your mission sometimes. But hey everyone has their own feel for these games and maybe you like the fast moving tanks or the crazy spawning enemies, you just have that quick reflex to shoot them if they pop up anywhere right? Well it doesn't do it for me, so I'm giving this game the score it deserves. A simple 3 for its simple 3 missions...
