I started playing this this morning (i.e. ages ago by the time this gets read) and I was looking forward to something which in my mind was like RPG meets Pac-pix.
Anyway, starting off, you are the creator of a book that gives llife to a small village. However, many things go wrong and the villagers call on you for help. You design a hero costume for a mannequin (I designed mine like GIR from Invader Zim for example) and that is the character you control for the rest of the game. Also, you occasionally have to do minor things with the stylus. After all, it is a DS game.
Gameplay is good, your character is moved with the d-pad and can enter doors and interact with things with either a stylus tap or the a button. Once you enter the worlds/stages/what have you, then you jump with a, shoot with b and punch with y. The aim is to find secret unlockables (which, once you open the item shop, become available for purchase, I know, it sucks that you have to do both.) the 3 characters lost on each stage and pages of the book of life.
Each stage has 3 characters to find and 4 pieces of a page. There are also 3 secrets to find on most stages; and both killing enemies and cleaning of shadow goop are some of the ways of earning coins.
Enemies aren't too difficult, as I think this is intended for children. They vary and get harder as you progress, but they only really get annoying if they swarm you.
Damage is indicated by the loss of clothing on your mannequin, and they are regained by collecting small hearts (2 pieces of clothing back) and big hearts (all pieces of clothing back.
Music and sound effects are basic and repetitive, so I'd say keep the sound off really.
The levels are fairly long, and different parts can only be cleared by drawing certain objects. This is easy, but quite tedious, as the levels get rather repetitive.
I'll sum up now, as I have to go eat some dinner.
Graphics: 8/10 (I like the way everything you draw stays and moves)
Sound: 4/10 (Seriously, I'd keep it off)
Gameplay: 6/10 (The combat system is basic, as is everything in gameplay)
Stylus integration: 8/10 (The idea of drawing everything is a good one, but it's like having to pick my stylus up in the middle of a level, plus I can't draw in some of the tiny boxes.)
Replayability: 4/10 (It's a good game, but I really don't think I'll play it again after I finish)
Overall: 7/10
Hopefully this has helped and I know you all want your time back, but this was my first review, so cut me some slack.
