Kurupoto - Cool Cool Stars: Reviews

Okay, after quite a long time from my last review. Time to lay the smackdown on some games including japanese imports one.

So let’s tackles this short game for starters called “kuropoto cool cool stars”.
Kuropoto island are inhabited by kuropotos who loves nothing more than eat, sleep and star gaze. One night while gazing up at the night sky, the moon has caught a terrible cold and scared the heck out of all the stars by sneezing. The stars helplessly fall and couldn’t get back up cause they lost their halos which enables them to… uhm… stay up. So the kuropotos helps out the stars look for their halos and puzzle game commence.

Yeah I’m not even going to ask what they do at Friday nights. The story is that simple and won’t even try to be as complex as Zelda or metal gear, which doesn’t need to be.

The gameplay is a board puzzle where you guide the stars to their halos by tilting the board so to move the stars via gravity. You press the R and L buttons to shift the board to the right or the left. Each time you shift the board counts as a turn. The twist here is the kuropotos which varies from the stationary ones that make up the whole board and the moving ones that also falls and moves with the stars. The moving kuropotos and the stationary ones differ in each puzzles. One board will have tons of moving kuropotos that you need to find a way through them towards the goal or a board where there are no moving kuropotos that you’ll need to rely on where you can drop the stars with the stationary kuropotos in the middle of the board and such.. The objective of the game is by well moving those stars which are the circle ones to a loop in the board. The whole thing is as simple as the story itself and it works just fine. The challenge is getting those stars to the loop goals in as fewer turns or shifts as possible and no two boards are the same. When you finish a set of board stages in a certain constellation, the constellation will form a picture of it (like the big dipper). If you finish certain number of constellation, you’ll get a picture reward… yay -_-.

And this is the part about how I feel about the game. Well the “easy-to-pick-up” puzzle is great as most gamers will be able to play this and I always feel compelled to achieve the lesser turns. Though it lacks a certain appeal to be lined up with the big boys like puzzle quest, it’s still a good play around and one of those games you can actually play while in a car (which as everyone might say about being able to play in cars with games such as contra 4, the world ends with you or even metroid prime is a joke) since you only use the shoulder buttons and the touch screen.
