One of the top-rating cartoons from Nickelodeon these days is the Avatar: The Last Airbender. The show got another RPG for the DS handhelds (and DS emulators). This time the game was called Avatar The Last Airbender Into the Inferno.

"Into the Inferno" is the third installment of Avatar: The Last Airbender for DS. It also based on the Book Fire (which is season 3) where a 12-year-old Airbenber named Aang is the current reincarnation of Avatar. With the help of his friends, Aang mastered other elements such Water and Earth. In the "Into the Inferno" Aang and his friends need to search for a Firebender who will teach Aang Firebending before the Fire Nation wins the final step of conquest.

If you never watch the Season 3 of Avatar, you really don't get a clue what's going on the story. Basically, there are some episodes that are based on TV series. At the start of the game, you will see Aang woke up in a Fire Nation factory and Katara wakes him in order to escape. Unlike in the previous Avatar games, the characters in the third installment are now in super deformed (a.k.a. chibi) which never included in console version. The super deformed styles are based on Avatar shorts which was seen on TV. They may too cute in the TV shorts but unfortunately they can be quite blocky because the graphics on the game is all 3D. Cut scenes including funny dialogues can at least give charm to players. The music and sound effects are well enough.

When it comes to controls, the game mostly use stylus (or mouse pointer for emulators) and give your direction in order to move the characters. The characters jump automatically but sometimes can be bit hard to guess because of lack of game's camera movements. Every chapter of the game there are two characters you'll have to control. Switching back and forth or separate, you choose characters to solve puzzles and move objects scattering in one place in order to get into next chapter. You'll also have to tap an icon in the lower right called "focus mode". "Focus mode" is used for using every character's abilities and their stylus movements are different to each other.

One of the main themes in "Into the Inferno" gameplay is all about puzzles. Every place, you see scattered objects you need to move, destroy or change direction depending where it set. Aside from that, there are enemies appear on a large environment. There are two types of enemies - one have melee attacks and the other one shooting fireballs, and later some of their enemies uses defense. If you want tough battles around them, you can use a character and activate his/her "focus mode". There are also bosses appear on some chapters through smashing them or by using abilities.

There aren't much unlockables in the Story mode although there are secret coins scattering around every chapter. Those special coins are used to spent for unlocking character's outfits in Ember Island Players and Volleyball mode. It's a mini-addition to the Avatar game for interactive fun.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - Into the Inferno seem to be a good game when it comes to puzzles, but maybe common in other puzzle solving and action RPG kind of a game. Therefore, Into The Inferno might be repetitive for younger players especially finding missed coins. Avatar fans would surely enjoy this game all way through the finish line. The game is aimed for everyone.
