Ragnarok Online DS: Reviews

If you're a fan of the original game, RODS is a decent clone of the PC counterpart. Although it follows the basic game mechanics from the original, it lacks a huge part of what made the original game so successful. It's not actually Ragnarok "Online". It's more so an RPG that can be played with friends or groups of 3 in certain dungeons. No the thousand person servers like the PC version.

Either way, Ragnarok Online DS, is a fun game whether you're experienced with the original game or completely new. It's a completely different game from any other NDS RPGs. Fun grinding, searching for rare items, and creating unique characters through stats and skill points is what makes RO a awesome RPG. Die hard fans will appreciate the classic songs, and sprites from the original ragnarok; with bonus of 2 new classes; in which I have yet to unlock.

The interface is pretty straight forward, tap the monster to perform attacks, and select from skills or a shortcut menu located on the top right to execute skills. Although it would be great if you were able to use shortcuts through a DS button.

One last thing I haven't mentioned is the endless dialogue. Right now there's only a Japanese version out, but thank god it's in Japanese, and I can't understand 50% of the game. Since it's mega lame and painful to scroll through.

So in conclusion; it's a fun game, but the story line needs to be more exciting and less predictable; and a Player vs Player feature would really make the game kicking. I'll give the game a 7/10 to new players and a 6/10 for a person that loved the original.
