Pokemon Platinum Version: Reviews

Game Score: 9/10
Pokemon Platinum Version is another game in a the long running Pokemon franchise. It is the third game among the fourth generation of Pokemon games (i.e. DS) made as a part of a trio together with Diamond and Pearl in a similar way to Yellow Version, Crystal Version or Emerald Version.
Graphics: The graphics are fairly standard in terms of DS fair, but it is of a slightly higher quality than Diamond and Pearl. However the later games, HeartGold and SoulSilver, go beyond it. It should be said though that the usage of 3D is well done if blocky at times.
Controls: Like any other Pokemon game it plays with the D-pad and the A+B buttons, adding the Y button for quickly using key items, like a bike, and the X button as the menu button (though one can still use the normal start button via options). The touch screen sees seldom use outside of battles and gimmicky mini-games. It is used primarily to manipulate a second menu called the Poketch (a.k.a. PokeWatch), which has several screens and upgrades allowing a player to see a basic run-down of their Pokemon or to find hidden items with the touch of a finger.
In battle however the touch screen is a very welcome addition as a player can just touch the screen to choose attacks, switch Pokemon or use items (or run away).
Story: If anyone has ever played Pokemon they'll know what the story is. It's basically the same. The hero (either a boy or girl depending on the player's choice) sets out from his/her town with a little Grass, Fire or Water starter Pokemon. Also with battles against the hero's childhood friend and rival who plays a simi-important role. There is the usual Pokemon Professor, Prof. Rowan. And this time the evil Pokemon abusing team is named Team Galactic who want to take over the world via the powers of space and time. The hero must stop them as well as get eight gym badges and challenge the Pokemon League to become the champion of the region, in this case Sinnoh.
Overall: A good game and a nice upgrade from Diamond and Pearl as it also adds even more Pokemon to the mix then Diamond and Pearl had (unique for a third version) and has even more ways to connect with friends. Though like any other Pokemon game it is a game made for 7+ and has the plot to show it. However, that's not to say both young and old can enjoy the game, while the computer is about as smart as it ever was and the story and villains as watered down as ever, it is a charming and fun game and the Wi-Fi connection makes it have much more depth to it as the battles against friends are really where the action is.
